A lesson

What a lesson is like

Every lesson follows the same three steps, whatever the instrument.

  1. 01

    Step 1: A warm-up

Long tones, scales or rudiments, played slowly enough to listen to.

  2. 02

    Step 2: New material

Your student's school music first, then anything the teacher adds for the next step.

  3. 03

Step 3: A plan for the week

Your teacher writes down what to practice and for how long, so practice at home has a shape.

Not sure which instrument?

A placement visit is a good place to find out. A teacher listens, and you leave with a match and a weekly time.
