Safety routines
Windows and open doors
Every lesson room has a window in its door, or the door stays open.
Parents may sit in
A parent is welcome to sit in on any lesson, and the hall has a bench for waiting.
Who may collect a student
We hand a student only to the adults on your pickup list, and we ask for ID from anyone we don't know.
When a student is ill
A student with a fever stays home. Tell us by text or a call before the lesson, and we will offer a make-up where the tuition page allows one.
Sample details.
Family policies
What families ask us before the first lesson.
Photos of your child
We ask your written permission before we share any photo of your child, on this site, in newsletters or on social media, and you can change your answer at any time. We never put a child's name with a photo, and the photos on this site are examples until we replace them with our own.
When to keep your child home
A student who has a fever, or who has been sick overnight, stays home until they are well again. Tell us by text or a call before the lesson. How a missed lesson is made up is on the tuition page.
Closures for weather and holidays
We close for school holidays and winter break, and when the school district closes for weather. We text families the same day, and your teacher offers a make-up where the tuition page allows one.
Drop-off and pickup
Parents may wait on the bench in the hall or sit in on the lesson. We hand a student only to the adults on your pickup list, and we ask for ID from anyone we don't know. A student who walks or rides home tells us in writing at registration.
Watching class and recitals
A parent is welcome to sit in on any lesson, and families are welcome at our recitals. At a recital we ask everyone to silence phones, to stay seated while students play and to clap between pieces.
Leaving the program
We ask for a month's notice before a student leaves, given in writing by email or through the contact form. The tuition page says what happens to a term in progress.
What to wear and bring
Students bring their instrument in its case, the music from school and a pencil. Ordinary school clothes are fine. On recital days we ask for concert dress, usually dark pants or a skirt and a plain top.
Screens and phones
Phones stay in a pocket or a bag during lessons and sectionals, unless the teacher asks a student to use one as a tuner or a metronome.
Anything we missed?
Ask at the placement visit, or send us a message. We answer within a day.
